Single Centrelink recipients who rent privately can receive up to $215.40 per fortnight in Rent Assistance — that's $15.39 per day toward your rent. You receive 75 cents for every dollar of rent above $152.00 per fortnight, and reach the maximum when your rent hits $439.20 per fortnight. Rent Assistance is paid automatically on top of your main Centrelink payment and is indexed in March and September.

How it's calculated

You receive 75 cents for every dollar of rent above the threshold, up to the maximum. Rent below $152.00/fn receives no assistance.

Worked example: $300/fn rent

($300 − $152.00) × 0.75

= $148 × 0.75

= $111.00 Rent Assistance/fn
